The hype surrounding Sidney Crosby started earlier and was magnified as he entered the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Perhaps the most hyped prospect in NHL history, many were turned off of Crosby because of the endless hyping of him.

 

Interesting to see Colin Campbell on Hockey Night in Canada trying to defend his ho-hum stance on the place fighting and cheap-shots have in the game. According to him fighting “has its place” and cheap-shots are unavoidable, neither of which is considerably related to the other.

And we wonder why this league is going down the toilet everywhere other than a handful of cities?

I've been skeptical of this team throughout the season and until Christmas, that skepticism may have been rewarded with a team that was anemic offensively and with Roberto Luongo not playing at his best. But, after Christmas things have changed, just when you think this team has sprung a leak the ship is righted. Sure, this team isn't perfect, but with 8 games left in the season, a playoff berth is all but locked up and even the outside chance of winning the President's trophy still exists.

The Giants opened their playoff series against Chilliwack tonight. I realize that they’re a junior team but what I didn’t realize until tonight was how little respect that team receives from the media, at least until they’re the last thing making headlines on Vancouver ice in the spring.

He returned tonight, held pointless, plus-1 rating.

Oh, and Chelios hit him with an errant puck.

They lost.

Now that the Vancouver Canucks are officially on the short list to win the Cup, I think now is as good a time as any to tell you all that none of this surprises me. Back on a cool, drunken September night, I stood up and proudly proclaimed that this team was going to over-perform, they would make the playoffs, and they would challenge. I have no proof of this of course, you’re just going to have to take my word for it.

My sister came in from out of town and cried until we watched Lost instead of the game. Fucking bitch ass nigger rape balls.

• Finally, Pyatt's back with the Sedins. Took long enough. That was completely unfair - they take Pyatt away from the twins, where he gets all his points, and then due to his lack of production they stick him on the fourth line. Now he's back with the Twins for one game and we remember how dominant they used to be. He's really picked up this cycle business. Does not look out of place, even when he doesn't produce.
  

I had the pleasure this weekend of attending the Western Canadian Sports Marketing Conference in Edmonton. Besides having some solid pub crawls and night events such as seeing the Oilers and Edmonton Rush games, the conference also had a group of really excellent speakers and hot stove panelists.
